De Matrix Show is a Soca podcast mixed by Me, DJ Tate. It has been going over 2 years now under the Sounds Best With Soca banner, but I have decided to develop the show under it’s own brand name because of its popularity and the influence it has achieved in these short years. It started out of boredom with my cousin DJ Shaney Hypes from the Hypa Activ Crew from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It was my good friend Mr. Hardwine from Release D Riddim who encouraged me to continue and develop it to being one of the top soca podcasts on the web.
I really appreciate the support I have been given over the last few years and I will try my best to live up to the standard that the show has set.
Now for a little about myself……
I was introduced to DJ Roughneck in 2005 when I had a weekly show on his pirate radio station, Lynx FM, which gained a lot of attention from a large amount of soca lovers here in London and quickly became the most popular show on the station every Wednesday Night. I was then introduced to Mike Forbes, who took me under his wing and made me a staple in all his events including holding down the truck on my own for Notting Hill Carnival.
In 2008, while playing at Notting Hill Carnival, Credable from Release D Riddim decided to bring me onboard for Soca Central at Corks Wine Bar, an influential weekly Soca Event in the Heart of London. While playing here, I quickly gained attention of a lot of other promoters and began playing at various other fetes here in London. In 2008, I joined the then starting Soca Frenzy and quickly helped establishing it as one of London’s premier Soca Fetes.
As now one of London’s premier and busiest Soca DJs, I have played and continue to play in the best Soca Fetes in London from Release D Riddim & Soca Frenzy to Soca Mafia events. I also am the resident DJ of the UK Chocolate Nation Mas Band which holds packed out boat parties on the River Thames as well as other inclusive events. Being involved in all the above mentioned events, I often get the chance to be the back up DJ for established artits like Bunji Garlin, Fay- Ann Lyons, Skinny Fabulous, Tallpree, Jamesy P., Kerwin DuBois and others.
As well as a vibrant UK Career, I play frequently in the biggest events in Europe, like Rotterdam Carnival, Bielefeld Carnival and Berlin Carnival which lead me to be sponsored by Berlin Clothing Company, YARD.
2011 has been the most successfull year for me so far. I put on my first ever solo event “What Ah Feeling“, the warm up to Berlin Carnival, which went down a storm with everyone looking forward to the next one. In October and Novemeber, I had my first “International Shuffle” tour, where I played in Atlanta, London and Berlin in successive 3 weeks. It was bitter sweet for one of the events I played at was a fund raiser for a dear friend of mine, Cyril. In 2011, I also won the Clabash Best Club/ Party DJ Award. I am deeply touched that this great honour has been given to me and can’t thank my fans and supporters often enough. Thank y’all!
I also now do a monthly slot on Choice FM with Martin Jay for his prestigious and long running Soca Show on the commercial airways called “The Caribbean Affair”.
Not only satisfied being just a DJ, I want to make a mark in the Soca World and in 2011, Snapshot (Backshot) was released, sung by Shaney Hypez, written by me and has blown up to be one of the years biggest tunes.
In 2012, I will be doing alot of BIG things both for myself and for the London Soca Community representing Us Internationally, I continue to love and appreciate the support everyone has given me.
